Bolivia and Humanitarian Issues

Bolivia has some very poor people who need medical attention, education and assistance too. Many who have volunteered in the past for medical missions there say that there are so many simple things that can be done. I totally agree that there are simple things that people can do, but simply do not know. The slums are a huge issue.

In Bolivia the people move to the city, when they live on excellent land with great top soil. Some scholars say that it is easier for the government to feed them and take care of them better due to economies of scale and resources. However, if they were taught how to farm and everything grows in Bolivia, then they would not need to be fed.

Of course now many of the rivers in Bolivia are contaminated with raw sewage so, it is difficult for them. That is also often an upstream problem from the cities and larger areas where people accumulate. Interestingly enough the previous solutions are now causing unanticipated, unintended consequences and problems. It is pretty linear, their answers to the challenges they face and terrifying what those end up causing in the future. Read the rest of this entry »

As a Christian and Humanitarian the Life Coaching Profession Bothers Me Greatly

Recently a friend came to me to ask my thoughts and opinion on a situation in her life. She was offered a new position in the firm she works for. It would be a whole new career change for her offering more money.

She was afraid that if she took this new position she might fail or what if she didn’t like it? We talked about the fear of change. What’s the worst thing could happen if she didn’t like the job? With compassion and support I helped her shed some new light on the situation. I didn’t give her any advice on what to do because I wanted my friend to come up with the answers for herself that will liberate her.

At the end of our 45-minute conversation she had came to the conclusion that she would take this new position and she would step out on faith. We hugged and that was it.

That one conversation would have cost her about 90 dollars or more if I had charged her as a Life Coach. I believe Life coaches have gone way too far with these expensive coaching sessions.

I have seen some life coaches web site who charge $120 a session with a three-session minimum. These coaches are charging these enormous prices for what a loving family member or friend can do for free. My grandmother was the best life coach in the world. She was old with more life experiences and wisdom in her life to write 100 life-coaching books. They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and my mother has just as much wisdom and compassion as my grandmother did. Read the rest of this entry »

A Solution to Many of the Worlds Greatest Humanitarian Problems

I would like to put forth a suggestion for solving a number of the world’s greatest humanitarian problems. It is neither novel nor complex – however, if implemented, it would without question save millions of lives, increase the world’s collective wealth, and eliminate a tremendous amount of unnecessary suffering.

The idea is based on a honorable action that is encouraged by most of the world’s inhabitants regardless of religion, creed, race, or income – personal generosity. I would like to briefly make a case for the importance of practicing this virtue. If we American’s fully embraced it, we could eliminate several of the world’s most debilitating solvable problems while also improving our own state.

How is that possible? To illustrate I have selected three pressing worldwide problems and one American issue. Take a look at these figures: Read the rest of this entry »
